9 Day Sea Kayak Expedition
Circumnavigate Koh Chang before continuing to Koh Rang, Koh Mak and Koh Wai — a challenging expedition covering approximately 165 kilometres of coastline and open sea.
9 Day Sea Kayak Expedition
This challenging sea kayak expedition begins with a full circumnavigation of Koh Chang, revealing the island’s quiet eastern coast, traditional fishing communities, mangrove forests and dramatic western shoreline.
The journey then continues into the outer islands of the Koh Chang archipelago. We make major open-water crossings to Koh Rang, spend one night camping beside the sea, explore Koh Mak and enjoy a well-earned rest day before paddling through Koh Kham, Koh Bai Dang and Koh Wai.
The complete programme includes a familiarisation day, eight paddling days, one rest day and nine nights’ accommodation. With daily distances of up to 26 kilometres and open-water crossings of up to approximately 10 kilometres, this expedition is designed for experienced, water-confident kayakers with good fitness.
Tour itinerary
Every multi-day expedition begins with a familiarisation day. Routes and distances are a guide and may be adjusted according to wind, tides, sea conditions and the ability of the group.
Familiarisation Day
Meet your guide and fellow paddlers at the S.E.A. Kayaking base in Salakphet. We will discuss the planned route, complete the required medical and contact forms, and fit your kayak, paddle, spraydeck and PFD. Dry bags will be provided so that you can organise and pack your equipment. There is no paddling and no food provided on the familiarisation day. Once the preparation is complete, we will transfer you to your hotel.
Salakphet → Koh Ngam → Salakkok
We launch from our waterfront base and begin by exploring Salakphet Bay, its mangrove waterways and traditional fishing community. The journey continues past the Koh Chang Naval Battle Memorial towards Koh Ngam, known for its distinctive forested hills and narrow sandbar. From there, we follow Koh Chang’s southeastern coastline to Salakkok and our accommodation for the night.
Salakkok → Ao Sapparot → Klong Son Bay → White Sand Beach
After breakfast, we continue north along Koh Chang’s quiet eastern coastline, passing Than Mayom, the naval pier and the island’s northern ferry piers. After lunch, we paddle around the northern tip of Koh Chang, cross towards Klong Son Bay and follow the northwestern coast to White Sand Beach.
White Sand Beach → Chai Chet → Klong Prao → Bang Bao
From White Sand Beach, we paddle south along Koh Chang’s western coastline, passing Pearl Beach and its rocky shoreline before stopping near Chai Chet for lunch. The afternoon takes us towards the Klong Prao River, Koh Man Noi and a remote section of coastline accessible only from the sea. We finish the day at Bang Bao.
Bang Bao → Wai Chaek Beach → Koh Klum → Koh Rang
Leaving Bang Bao, we paddle past secluded Wai Chaek Beach before making an open-water crossing towards Koh Klum. After lunch and time to explore the island’s rocky coastline, we look south towards Koh Rang. A major crossing takes us towards Koh Ma Pring and the eastern coast of Koh Rang, where our campsite will be waiting.
Koh Rang Circumnavigation → Koh Kra → Koh Mak
The morning begins with an opportunity to snorkel among coral reefs and tropical fish before we continue our circumnavigation of Koh Rang. After exploring the island’s rock formations and northern beach, we paddle east to Koh Kra for lunch and more snorkelling. The final crossing takes us towards Koh Mak and our resort on the island’s southern coast.
Rest Day on Koh Mak
Today is yours to rest and recover or explore Koh Mak at your own pace. The island is easy to discover by bicycle, motorbike, local taxi or on foot. You may visit beaches, cafés and local communities or simply enjoy a quiet day at the resort.
Koh Mak → Koh Rayang → Koh Kham → Koh Bai Dang → Koh Wai
Fully rested, we continue along Koh Mak’s southern and western coastlines, with opportunities to explore rocky sections, caves and lava formations. We pass Koh Rayang Nai and Koh Rayang Nok before stopping near Koh Kham for lunch. From there, open-water crossings take us to Koh Bai Dang and onward to Koh Wai.
Koh Wai Circumnavigation → Koh Bai Dang → Koh Lao Ya Nok → Koh Wai
Today is dedicated to exploring the waters and islands surrounding Koh Wai. We paddle towards Koh Bai Dang for snorkelling before continuing towards Koh Lao Ya Nok. After a packed lunch, we complete the day’s circuit and circumnavigation of Koh Wai before returning for a second night.
Koh Wai → Koh Lao Ya Nai → Salakphet
After breakfast and morning coffee, we leave Koh Wai and paddle towards Koh Lao Ya Nai. The final part of the journey includes an open-water crossing of approximately five kilometres back to Koh Chang. We enter Salakphet Bay and finish the expedition at the S.E.A. Kayaking base.
