12 Day Sea Kayak Expedition
Our ultimate island-hopping expedition — paddle approximately 190 kilometres from Koh Chang to the clear waters of Koh Kood, with remote crossings, tropical islands and a night camping on Koh Rang.
12 Day Sea Kayak Expedition
Our longest regular sea kayaking expedition travels from Koh Chang through the outer islands of Mu Ko Chang National Park to remote Koh Kood.
The journey connects Koh Wai, Koh Mak, Koh Kood, Koh Rang and numerous smaller islands through a series of rewarding open-water crossings. Along the way, we explore coral reefs, quiet beaches, rocky coastlines and clear tropical water rarely experienced from the seat of a kayak.
The programme includes ten paddling days, two rest days and one memorable night camping on Koh Rang. With approximately 190 kilometres of paddling and open-water crossings of up to nine kilometres, this expedition is designed for experienced, water-confident sea kayakers with good fitness.
Every multi-day expedition begins with a familiarisation day before departure.
Tour itinerary
Every multi-day expedition begins with a familiarisation day. Routes and distances are a guide and may be adjusted according to wind, tides, weather, sea conditions and the ability of the group.
Familiarisation Day
Meet your guide and fellow paddlers at the S.E.A. Kayaking base in Salakphet. We will discuss the planned route, complete the required medical and contact forms, and fit your kayak, paddle, spraydeck and PFD. Dry bags will be provided so that you can organise and pack your equipment. There is no paddling and no food provided on the familiarisation day.
Bang Bao → Koh Klum → Koh Wai
We transfer from the S.E.A. Kayaking base to Bang Bao, where we prepare and pack the kayaks. The expedition begins with an open-water crossing of approximately seven kilometres to Koh Klum. After lunch and a swim, we continue across to Koh Wai, arriving near Paradise Beach and some of the best snorkelling areas in the archipelago.
Koh Wai → Southeastern Koh Mak
After breakfast and morning coffee, we follow Koh Wai’s coastline before beginning a memorable nine-kilometre open-water crossing towards Koh Mak. We then continue along the island’s eastern coastline to our resort for the night.
Koh Mak → Klong Chao, Koh Kood
Departing Koh Mak, we paddle south towards the northern tip of Koh Kood. An open-water crossing of approximately eight kilometres takes us to one of the most remote islands in the archipelago. We continue around Koh Kood’s northern coast and follow its western shoreline towards Klong Chao, known for its clear water, tropical beach and relaxed atmosphere.
Klong Chao → Ao Phrao → Ao Bang Bao → Klong Chao
Today is a return journey along Koh Kood’s western coast, passing a series of quiet bays and white-sand beaches. We paddle south towards Ao Phrao and Ao Bang Bao before returning to our accommodation at Klong Chao. Subject to conditions and the group’s energy, an optional extension may take us along the Klong Chao waterway towards the waterfall.
Rest Day on Koh Kood
Today is yours to rest or explore the Klong Chao area at your own pace. Nearby options include beaches, waterfalls, cafés, restaurants and local shops. You may travel by local taxi, motorbike or bicycle, or simply relax at the resort.
Klong Chao → Koh Raet → Koh Mai Si → Koh Mak
After the rest day, we leave Klong Chao and paddle towards Koh Raet, where an underwater sculpture garden has been created to support coral growth. We continue towards Koh Mai Si before making an open-water crossing of approximately eight kilometres back to Koh Mak, finishing on the island’s southwestern coast.
Koh Mak → Koh Rayang → Koh Rang Circumnavigation
Leaving Koh Mak, we paddle west past Koh Rayang Nai and Koh Rayang Nok before making an open-water crossing towards Koh Rang. We explore Koh Rang’s rocky coastline and clear water, with opportunities to snorkel among coral reefs and tropical fish. The day ends at our remote campsite, where the tents and camping equipment will be ready.
Koh Rang → Koh Kham → Northern Koh Mak
Today offers a gentler pace after the previous day’s crossing and camping. We leave Koh Rang and return towards Koh Mak, stopping at Koh Kham to enjoy its white-sand beach, clear water and distinctive black volcanic rocks. We finish on the northern side of Koh Mak.
Rest Day on Koh Mak
Enjoy a second rest day on quiet Koh Mak. Explore by bicycle, motorbike, local taxi or on foot, visit the island’s beaches and cafés, or simply rest before the final three paddling days.
Koh Mak → Koh Wai → Koh Lao Ya → Salakphet
We leave Koh Mak and begin with an open-water crossing of approximately nine kilometres towards Koh Wai. After stopping at Ao Yai Ma for lunch, we continue towards Koh Lao Ya Nok and Koh Lao Ya Nai. The final crossing brings us back to Koh Chang and into Salakphet Bay.
Salakphet → Koh Phrao Nok → Wai Chaek Beach → Bang Bao
We paddle out through Salakphet Bay towards Koh Phrao Nok before following Koh Chang’s remote southwestern coastline. After stopping at secluded Wai Chaek Beach, we continue to Bang Bao and our accommodation for the night.
Bang Bao → Koh Chang West Coast
The final day follows Koh Chang’s dramatic western coastline, where rocky headlands, narrow passages and small sea caves create an exciting finish to the expedition. After passing Bailan Bay, we stop for lunch near Lonely Beach or Koh Man Nai before completing our journey along the west coast.
