7 Day Sea Kayak Expedition
Our flagship expedition through the Koh Chang archipelago — six days of sea kayaking, major open-water crossings, a night camping on Koh Rang and a well-earned rest day on Koh Mak.
7 Day Sea Kayak Expedition
Our most popular expedition is a challenging journey through the islands of Mu Ko Chang National Park, travelling from Salakphet to Koh Rang, Koh Mak, Koh Wai and back to Koh Chang.
The route combines long open-water crossings, island circumnavigations, remote beaches, coral reefs and some of the best snorkelling in the archipelago. One memorable night is spent camping on Koh Rang, followed by comfortable accommodation and a well-earned rest day on Koh Mak.
The complete programme includes a familiarisation day, six paddling days, one rest day and seven nights’ accommodation. With daily paddling distances of up to 24 kilometres and an open-water crossing of approximately 10 kilometres, this expedition is designed for experienced, water-confident paddlers with good fitness.
Tour itinerary
Every multi-day expedition begins with a familiarisation day. The routes and distances below are a guide and may be adjusted according to wind, tides, sea conditions and the ability of the group.
Familiarisation Day
Meet your guide and fellow paddlers at the S.E.A. Kayaking base in Salakphet. We will discuss the planned route, complete the required medical and contact forms, and fit your kayak, paddle, spraydeck and PFD. Dry bags will be provided so that you can organise and pack your equipment for the expedition. There is no paddling and no food provided on the familiarisation day. Once the preparation is complete, we will transfer you to your hotel.
Salakphet → Koh Phrao Nok → Wai Chaek Beach → Bang Bao
After packing the kayaks and completing a safety briefing, we launch from our waterfront base in Salakphet. The journey begins through the mangroves and Salakphet Bay, with panoramic views across the southern islands. We continue towards Koh Phrao Nok and follow Koh Chang’s remote southwestern coastline, stopping at secluded Wai Chaek Beach before finishing the day at Bang Bao.
Bang Bao → Koh Klum → Koh Rang
Leaving Bang Bao, we begin with an open-water crossing of approximately seven kilometres to Koh Klum. After exploring the island’s rocky coastline, we stop for lunch before looking south across the open sea towards Koh Rang Yai. A major crossing of approximately 10 kilometres takes us towards Koh Ma Pring and the eastern coast of Koh Rang. We finish at our remote campsite, where the tents and camping equipment will be ready for the night.
Koh Rang Circumnavigation → Koh Kra → Koh Mak
The morning begins with an opportunity to snorkel among coral reefs and tropical fish before we continue our circumnavigation of Koh Rang. After exploring the island’s rock formations, forested coastline and northern beach, we paddle east to Koh Kra for lunch and more snorkelling. The final crossing takes us towards Koh Mak, followed by a paddle along the island’s southern coast to our resort.
Rest Day on Koh Mak
Today is yours to rest and recover or explore Koh Mak at your own pace. The island is easy to discover by bicycle, motorbike, local taxi or on foot. You may visit beaches, cafés and local communities or simply enjoy a quiet day at the resort.
Koh Mak → Koh Rayang → Koh Kham → Koh Bai Dang → Koh Wai
Fully rested, we continue along Koh Mak’s southern and western coastlines, exploring rocky sections, caves and lava formations. We pass Koh Rayang Nai and Koh Rayang Nok before stopping near Koh Kham for lunch. From there, we make an open-water crossing towards Koh Bai Dang and continue to Koh Wai, where we spend the night in simple island accommodation.
Koh Wai → Koh Lao Ya Nok → Koh Ngam → Koh Wai
Today is a full-day circuit exploring the islands surrounding Koh Wai. We paddle towards Koh Lao Ya Nok and Koh Ngam, known for its two forested hills connected by a narrow sandbar lined with coconut trees. After stopping for a packed lunch, we continue the journey and complete a circumnavigation of Koh Wai before returning for a second night.
Koh Wai → Koh Lao Ya Nai → Salakphet
After breakfast and morning coffee, we leave Koh Wai and paddle towards Koh Lao Ya Nai. The final section includes an open-water crossing of approximately five kilometres back to Koh Chang. We enter Salakphet Bay and finish the expedition at the S.E.A. Kayaking base.
