4 Day Sea Kayak Expedition
Four days exploring the southern Koh Chang archipelago — from Salakphet’s mangroves to remote beaches, open-water crossings and two nights on beautiful Koh Wai.
4 Day Sea Kayak Expedition
Our four-day sea kayak expedition explores the quieter southern coastline and islands of the Koh Chang archipelago.
Beginning at our waterfront base in Salakphet, the journey takes you through mangrove waterways and past Koh Phrao Nok to remote Wai Chaek Beach and Bang Bao. From there, we make open-water crossings to Koh Klum and Koh Wai, where we spend two nights and explore nearby islands including Koh Bai Dang, Koh Ngam and Koh Lao Ya.
With daily distances of approximately 13–21 kilometres, this moderate-level expedition offers a rewarding combination of island crossings, secluded beaches, snorkelling and simple island life.
The expedition includes a familiarisation day before departure, four full paddling days and four nights’ accommodation.
Tour itinerary
Every multi-day expedition begins with a familiarisation day. The routes and distances below are a guide and may be adjusted according to wind, tides, sea conditions and the ability of the group.
Familiarisation Day
Meet your guide and fellow paddlers at the S.E.A. Kayaking base in Salakphet. We will discuss the planned route, complete the required medical and contact forms, and fit your kayak, paddle, spraydeck and PFD. Dry bags will be provided so that you can organise and pack your equipment for the expedition. There is no paddling and no food provided on the familiarisation day. Once the preparation is complete, we will transfer you to your hotel.
Salakphet → Koh Phrao Nok → Wai Chaek Beach → Bang Bao
After packing the kayaks and completing a safety briefing, we launch from our waterfront base in Salakphet. The journey begins through the mangroves and Salakphet Bay, with panoramic views across the islands off Koh Chang’s southern coast. We continue towards Koh Phrao Nok and follow the remote southwestern coastline, stopping at secluded Wai Chaek Beach before finishing the day at Bang Bao.
Bang Bao → Koh Klum → Koh Wai
Leaving Bang Bao, we begin with an open-water crossing of approximately seven kilometres to Koh Klum. This is a challenging but rewarding section of the expedition. After lunch and time for a swim, we continue across to Koh Wai. Approaching the island’s northwestern coast, we reach Paradise Beach and some of the best snorkelling areas in the Koh Chang archipelago. We spend the night in simple island accommodation on Koh Wai.
Koh Wai → Koh Bai Dang → Koh Ngam → Koh Lao Ya Nok → Koh Wai
Today is a full-day circuit exploring the islands surrounding Koh Wai. We paddle towards Koh Bai Dang, Koh Ngam and Koh Lao Ya Nok. Koh Ngam is especially distinctive, with two forested hills connected by a narrow sandbar lined with coconut trees. After stopping for a packed lunch and time to explore, we continue around the islands before returning to Koh Wai for a second night.
Koh Wai → Koh Lao Ya Nai → Salakphet
After breakfast and morning coffee, we leave Koh Wai and paddle towards Koh Lao Ya Nai. The final part of the expedition includes an open-water crossing of approximately five kilometres back to Koh Chang. We enter the Salakphet area and finish our four-day journey at the S.E.A. Kayaking base.
